Celebrate South Africa’s history with Talana Live

A festival celebrating the Anglo-Boer War battle of Talana on 18 October 1899, Talana Live is a refreshing and innovative take on South African history.

The three-day event is presented at the Talana Museum in Dundee, a dusty coal mining town nestled in Kwa-Zulu Natal’s Biggarsberg Mountains.

Every year hundreds of international and local tourists flock to the battlefields of this historic area, and the festival’s first stint promises to be a combination of spellbinding history and eclectic cuisine.

Enjoy an array of tours by passionate guides who will entertain you with a treasure of stories reaching far back into our country’s history. Talana museum curator Pam McFadden will lead her famous Ghost Walk up the mountain on 19 October, when, legend has it, the vintage ghosts come out to play.

The festival will see the inauguration of the Dundee Heritage Trail and the Night at the Museum, where visitors are invited to experience the museum at night.

Watch re-enactments of the battles with the Dundee Diehards and their Boer counterparts, browse stalls of books and militaria, and enjoy a coffee and boerbeskuit while basking in South Africa’s rich and colourful past.

Talana Live will take place from 18-20 October in Dundee, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
