Panorama Ladies lose to Emmerentia

In a heated clash for a spot in the Sasol Women's National Playoffs, Emmentia Pirates FC remains victorious, after beating Panorama Ladies.

The Panorama Womens Football Club (FC) bravely fought for the top position in the Johannesburg Women’s Regional League (JWRL) against Emmarentia Pirates FC on Saturday, September 7 at the Panorama Football Club.

As the teams geared up for the ultimate clash, tensions were high as both coaches were very eager for their girls to secure a win. After easing into the first half, an unforced error caused by the Panorama side in the penalty area awarded the Emmarentia Pirates with their first goal.

Panorama head coach Malcolm Mattera tells the Roodepoort Northsider how crucial this win will be as it will secure a spot in the Sasol Women’s National Playoffs and in the future develop and expose the team to a high-performance league.

The second half came as a surprise to the team as two talented strikers from Emmarentia Pirates scored two additional goals, winning 3–0 against Panorama, moving six points ahead at the top of the JWRL league.

“This was the league decider for both teams, and Panorama being such a great team showed up and made it a tough battle. Being first and second on the log will build up the hunger for a win, which is what was showcased on the field today.

“I give coach Malcolm so much credit because he has a great team. I am very proud of how hard the girls worked today; they showed the very same commitment in last week’s game as well against Jomo Cosmos Women’s FC. Our very talented two players who scored the last two goals are only 15 years old from Soweto. They are upcoming Banyana Banyana players, and each game they keep growing and improving,” said Emmarentia Pirates coach Zane Abrahams.

Malcolm congratulated their win and expressed to the Northsider from the Panorama side that the hard work from the team paid off.

“Going forward, we will go back to the drawing board again. We have two more games left, and the plan is to make them count,” Malcolm added.
