Bowling for a good cause

The Maraisburg Bowling Club held their annual fundraising tournament on August 25.

The Maraisburg Bowling Club held its annual cancer fundraiser tournament in August.

The fundraiser was started in 2019 in aid of Lindie Liebenberg, a local woman who had been diagnosed with cancer.

Today, Lindie continues her fight against cancer and has even written a book, Slaying Cancer Together.

Funds generated from the annual tournament are donated to a different cancer charity every year.

According to club owner Steve Maritz, the tournament was supported by teams from various clubs including Discovery Bowling Club, the Dardanelles Shellhole of the Memorable Order of the Tin Hats (MOTH), the Vespa enthusiasts The Chicken Runners, and many more.

Several prizes were up for grabs during the day, among which was a raffle for a drinks hamper.

Lindie was there as usual, sharing her inspiring story and selling her book.

“Everyone had a wonderful day,” says Steve. “The tournament saw strong teams competing for top honours.

“The raffle and other competitions were well supported and we managed to raise a sizeable amount of money for the fight against cancer.”
