Florries’ netball excellence recognised

Hoërskool Florida was honoured with a prestigious award by Gauteng Schools Netball.

As the final whistle blows and the netball season comes to a thrilling close, many players and schools reflect on their journeys, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Among those is Hoërskool Florida’s netball team, whose years of hard work and dedication in the sport have paid off. The school has been part of the Gauteng Netball team for years, and they have recently been honoured with a special merit award for their excellent netball service in Gauteng and all over the country.

Hoërskool Florida accepted this award on August 23 at the prestigious Gauteng Schools Netball Awards at Laerskool Wierdapark in Centurion, Pretoria.

Not only did they receive this award, but they also earned prestigious nominations for Secondary School of the Year and saw their talented learner Abigail Landsberg being nominated for Secondary School’s Player of the Year.

According to Florida’s Sports Manager Di Woolley, the night was very formal and featured many industry professionals, such as former Proteas coach Dr Elsie Jordaan and Jané Badenhorst who graced the evening with her stunning voice and performance.

“We are so proud of Abigail and our entire school community for this incredible achievement. Thank you to everyone who is part of our success, from the coaches to the players and parents – together we make it possible,” she said.

She says this achievement is a shining example of what can be achieved through teamwork, dedication and a shared passion for sports.
