Roodies Northgate race turns 26

Roodepoort Athletics Club Northgate Road Race is a runaway success.

Sunday, July 21, marked 26 years of the famous Run the North race hosted by the Roodepoort Athletics Club.

This race kicked off at 7:30 at entrance four at the Northgate Shopping Centre and saw over 13 000 runners, joggers and walkers from across Gauteng lacing up their running sneakers and coming together to hit the 5km and 10km races.

According to club president Conrad de Buys, the race was a success, and all club members were hands-on to ensure smooth operation.

“The entire race was organised and handled by 60 club members, and it consisted of taking entries at the start, handling the water points, and road marshals who directed the athletes the correct way.

“At the end of the day, all the hard work and effort that was put into the event made it a rather successful one,” said Conrad.

The club hosts this race every year, and it is aimed at promoting fitness, fundraising for the club, and bringing together athletes from all walks of life for a social and networking gathering.

As the chilly Sunday drew to a close, many had painful bodies, but many were grateful to have completed this race, and Conrad thanked all their sponsors for making this race possible.
