Karate trio goes global

Three dedicated karate instructors achieve their dream of training in the legendary Kikugawa Dojo in Okinawa, Japan.

In a remarkable display of dedication and perseverance, three karate enthusiasts from Palm Court Karate embarked on a journey of a lifetime to Okinawa, Japan, the birthplace of karate.

Mario Sequeira, Ché Jagger and Nic Chalmers, who have spent 35 to 45 years honing their craft in Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate, were privileged to train in the esteemed Kikugawa Dojo, located in the remote town of Yonabaru.

This extraordinary opportunity was the culmination of years of hard work, patience and determination. The trio’s journey was further validated when they received final approval to undergo their sixth and fifth Dan gradings.

They were successfully graded by the Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Kyokai South Africa grading panel in Oroku, Okinawa, south of Japan, and received their certifications.

Sensei Mario and Sensei Ché have made this journey to Japan multiple times, with this being their ninth trip.

“This achievement shows the significance of the power of passion, commitment, and inspiring others to pursue their dreams with unwavering resolve. We hope this inspires our students to see that hard work does pay off,” Mario says.
