Parkrun: In loving memory of James Lang

Len Rutter Roodepoort parkrunners held a memorial to celebrate James Lang, a member of the Roodepoort Athletics Club who passed away in May.

One thing that is well-known about Roodepoort parkrunners is that they are fitness enthusiasts who have become friends and family.

On Saturday, June 29, the Roodepoort parkrun family gathered to pay tribute to their beloved fellow parkrunner and Comrades runner, James Lang, who sadly passed away in May. The event served as a heartfelt celebration of James’ life, his passion for running, and the impact he had on those around him.

James was a member of the Roodepoort Athletics Club, and he participated mainly in triathlons, the Comrades and parkruns.

The organisers of this heartfelt memorial and friends of James, Anthenea Faye and Kim Hutchons, said James was quite an important figure in their lives, and they didn’t get a chance to say their goodbyes as they waited for all the Comrades runners to come back from the recent Comrades Marathon that took place in Durban to Pietermaritzburg on June 9.

Moyra Bevilacqua, James’s mom, said she flew from England just to witness her son’s life being purely celebrated.

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to every parkrunner who gathered to honour her son’s memory.
