Discovery Primary crowned Knockout Champs

Discovery Primary School U13 boys claim a 1-0 victory against Trinityhouse Little falls in the Knockout Cup.

The U13 soccer boys of Discovery Primary School were crowned the West Rand Knockout Champions after they claimed a 1–0 victory against Trinityhouse Little Falls on May 15.

The match was very intense and highly competitive, as both teams fought their way to the championships. Discovery took the lead and scored their first and winning goal in the second half of the match. In addition, these talented young boys have also been named as runners-up for the league title.

In the U11 division, Discovery also showed its strength by securing a remarkable 5–1 win against Trinityhouse Little Falls in the same knockout cup.

The knockouts were played every Tuesday and Wednesday over a cycle of six weeks. According to Discover Primary School teacher and coach of the U13 boys, Lesley Williams the knockout was the most difficult game as they had one chance to prove themselves.

“Proud is an understatement. I’m over the moon because the knockouts are difficult; if you lose one game, you are out, but we are an undefeated team, and no team has beaten us. The closest we came to losing was a draw, only because we mostly sent our B team boys to play in that specific match,” he said.

Moreover, five of the boys on the team were selected to be part of the Bill Stewart tournament set to take place in Limpopo, and according to Lesley, this is a great scout for developing talent in their school.

“I usually encourage my boys to always go the extra mile and tell them to get videos of their favourite player to get an idea of who they might become in the future,” Lesley added.
