Florida competes against Allen Glen

Hoërskool Florida hosts a rugby game against Allen Glen High School.

With just a touch of winter in the air, the sun graced the rugby fields of Hoërskool Florida allowing them to host a successful sports day.

Florries’ rugby team geared up to face off against Allen Glen High School in an intense and suspenseful 80 minutes.

According to Allen Glen coaches John Kruger and Telivin Holland, they were both certain that their effort to prepare the team was in good hands and that their extensive training sessions leading up to the match would be showcased on the field.

“We prepared the boys today to remind themselves that although they make unforced errors, they keep their heads up and carry on until that last minute,” John said.

As both schools chanted their war cries to encourage their teams, the first half kicked off with Allen Glen leading by scoring two tries followed by their fly-half converting both penalties successfully leading his team to victory. The game ended with Allen Glen beating Florida 47–11.

Florries’ rugby coach Morné Hanekom expressed how proud he was of his team for remaining determined throughout the game despite the loss.
