The Ruimsig parkrun continues to attract large crowds to their weekly runs. Their latest event held on February 24 sported an astonishing 400 runners, taking on their scenic, yet fairly challenging course, which has become a favourite on the parkrun calendar.
Runners from all walks of life descended on the Ruimsig Stadium in the early morning to take part, some taking the challenge very seriously, some to keep fit, and others simply for a refreshing morning walk.
The competition for the top three was hotly contested, but eventually won by Thuso Motsaapheko in a time of 20:37. Finishing hot on his heels was Ryan Marshall (20.40) and Byron Haylett (20:54). The rest of the top five consisted of Joshua Madden (21:59) and Ryan Folster (22:33).
The first female runner came in at 12th place. Crescandra Barnes made short work of the Ruimsig course achieving a time of 25:16. Her closest competitor, Brenda White finished in 26:31. The rest of the women’s top five consists of Tersia van Straaten (26:54), Jeanne Rudman (27:31), and Ronelle Heyns, who finished in 30:03.
This week’s parkrun sported no fewer than 20 first-timers and nine personal best times.
Another facet of this weekly run is milestones. This week’s run featured four runners achieving milestones, two having completed their 50th runs, and two having done their 150th runs.
The Ruimsig parkrun is held every Saturday at the Ruimsig Sports Stadium and costs nothing to take part. Start-off is at 8am sharp and runners need to register on the parkrun website before the race.
