Ruimsig parkrun welcomes new members

Ruimsig parkrun welcomes new members and shares their top 10 finishers.

As a result of Ruimsig parkrun’s incredible growth and capacity to reach milestones, the community adores it.

An increasing number of people are taking advantage of the fantastic weather to go outside and begin their weekends with a brisk walk or run. Nearly 500 participants joined the parkrun team at the Ruimsig stadium. This is almost double the number of finishers in December 2023, and there were 62 first-timers. Since January 2024, they have welcomed almost 500 runners/ walkers and the numbers keep increasing.

“It was great to see so many new faces join us over the past two weeks. People have come for the fresh air, to meet new people, and to enjoy the views on the route. The atmosphere has been fantastic,” said Ruth Muitasa who has been the run director of the Ruimsig parkrun for the past four years.

The volunteer team was quick to jump in and help with the unexpected number of finishers.
“We have increased the length of our finish funnel and made use of extra hands as scanners, and things are running so smoothly,” said Nadine Crouch, the past week’s run director.

“There is also a new team of car guards to help keep an eye on the cars,” Nadine concluded.
