Preparation race success at Emmerentia Dam for two Florida Lake Canoe Club members

In preparation for the Eurosteel Dusi River Marathon, many paddlers joined in the preparation race hosted by the Dabulamanzi Canoe Club.

The preparation race at Emmarentia Dam hosted by Dabulamanzi Canoe Club provided training for paddlers taking on the infamous Eurosteel Dusi River Marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, set to take place between February 15–17.

Jannie Dallas from the Florida Lake Canoe Club said: “A variety of race options were made available for different levels of fitness for all paddlers to enjoy earlier in January.”

She continued, Roodepoort and Krugersdorp residents Kevin Hunt and Daryn Koertzen, competed in the red race course which is an 8km paddle followed by a 3km run with the boat and another 7km paddle. She noted this was the tougher race course of the Dusi preparation race. She noted other races included the pink and yellow race courses for those who prefer not to run with their boat and just paddle. She added that running with the boat is a Dusi training exercise. There was also a race for the guppies – the U12 youngsters – to start the year off with.

“The two-man Kayak with Kevin and Daryn managed the race well and finished 10th overall in 02:06:00,” concluded Jennie.
