Roodepoort dancer shows her passion by winning gold at Nationals

Local dancer excels in dancing, and brings home gold at championships.

Eleven-year-old Chiara Carstens won the freestyle and disco dancing categories at the National Competitive Championships earlier in November in Bloemfontein.

Chiara started her career in competitive dancing in October 2021. According to her mother, Bianca, she progressed from beginner to novice in less than a year.

“She became an intermediate dancer thereafter and at last year’s national champs she won in the freestyle and slow dance categories,” stated her mother proudly.

She added that Chiara won freestyle at the Gauteng Championships and came second in slow dance.
“She started disco in July and she came second in amateur disco at the Gauteng Champs,” added Bianca.

Although Chiara came second in the U14 world qualifier, she competed for the fun and passion of dancing.

“We are not sure if she will be able to partake in the world championships, as we only competed to get a feel for it,” explained Bianca.

Chiara dances for Dance Corp and keeps fit with her mother at Triple Threat Dojo in Ruimsig.
