Ruimsig parkrunners celebrate spring

Parkrunners celebrate spring during Ruimsig parkrun's 153rd run.

A colourful group of almost 300 parkrunners graced the Ruimsig parkrun, held every Saturday at Ruimsig Stadium, on September 2. Forty-eight parkrunners reached their personal best, while over 30 runners ran the Ruimsig parkrun for the first time!

Run director Harley Allkins and his fellow volunteers made sure the runners were ready to take on the Ruimsig route.

The volunteers cheered each runner on and shared words of encouragement as they ran through the finish line. Many runners brought their four-legged friends to join them in their early-morning exercise.

The wonderful thing about the parkrun is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be run, you can walk it too!

Allkins invites community members who enjoy a brisk morning run, walk, or jog to come and experience the parkrun.

“If you are unable to run or walk, you can always become a volunteer and help out at the finish line,” added Allkins. The Ruimsig parkrun will be celebrating its fifth birthday on September 16, runners are invited to come celebrate with the team of volunteers.

Allkins also appealed to the local security companies asking if they would be inclined to station a security vehicle at the parkrun entrance to help keep the runners safe on Saturday mornings.
