Sheriffettes and outlaws sling wood at Honeydew Bowling Club’s Ladies Day

Fundraiser with a charitable element an annual event to maintain the pristine setting at Honeydew Bowling Club.

The six-shooters were drawn and Stetsons donned to hunt down the jack.

Honeydew Bowling Club welcomed friends and fillies for their annual Ladies’ Day on August 17. Born from a time when women had less access to the greens on any Saturday, Ladies’ Day is a celebration of femininity and sacrifice. No party is complete without a theme and this year paid homage to the wild west.

Breakfast served by gentlemen was followed by a lucky draw and the auctioning off of a young stud who would serve as a runner for the purchaser. A spider, the term given to a ‘closest to the pin’ style competition rolled from the edge of the green was contested for charity. Every year a charity is assigned for Ladies’ Day and all proceeds of the spider this year went to The EARTH Centre, who were the suppliers of the decorative hay that filled the clubhouse.

“The Ladies’ Day is one of our biggest fundraisers throughout the year. The proceeds go directly back into the club for maintenance of our greens and clubhouse. This year we hosted 108 ladies from various bowling clubs in the area and this year’s theme was Rhinestone Cowboy, which proved to be a huge success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all,” said the club’s Orla Guilfoyle.

After 18 ends of bowls, the wranglers were treated to a line dancing performance by Dance for Joy who train and dance at Celebration Retirement Village.

Once the moonshine had settled, Guilfoyle concluded, “The day would not have been a success without the kind donations from many of our club members as well as outside sources, so a huge thank you again to all those involved.”
