Nine-year-old equestrian reigns in the trophies at awards gala

Young equestrian shines during a recent awards gala and will be competing in the Nationals later this year.

Jonathan van Dyk (9) who rides for Glover Paddocks in Honeydew received first place in the South African National Equestrian Schools Association’s Gauteng West level one to seven primary school top 10.

Jonathan also won gold in Prix Caprille, silver in Performance Riding and Working Riding as well as a bronze medal for In-hand Utility. Jonathan received these awards during the Sanesa West Awards Gala Dinner held at Usambara Wedding Venue on August 8.

He was also named the Top Achiever in his category and received his district colours after making the Gauteng West Regional A team in July. Yvette van Dyk, Jonathan’s mother, exclaimed that her son also qualified for the National Dressage team as well as In-Hand Utility and Prix Caprilli teams.

“Nationals will take place at the start of October at Kyalami Equestrian Park,” she exclaimed.
