Boskop Primary’s 1st team wins first league title in 32 years!

Through perseverance and teamwork the first team rugby players at Boskop Primary were able to emerge as champions of the Golden Lions League 2.

After years of training and working on different game plans, Boskop Primary’s first rugby team won their first league title in over three decades.

According to the school’s head of sports, Neels Gouws, the U9, U10, and first rugby teams emerged as the Golden Lions League 2 Champions.

The school’s U11 team played well but unfortunately lost their match by three points.

“This was quite the match. We started our play according to plan and I think this was the best half of the rugby season for our boys. Our opponents had big players and were strong competition for us,” explained Gouws, adding that it was a nail-biter win where they pulled through with a winning 29–17 in the last five minutes.

Gouws exclaimed that the highlight of the game was how his players played the game, through teamwork and dedication.

“Our outside centre, Lwandile Mthombeni, played one of his best matches of the season and our hooker dominated the scrums. I think our defense was the best it could be and although our opponents had a strong backline, our first team emerged victorious,” Gouws exclaimed proudly.

“As the head of sport at the school, it was amazing to see our hard work realise. We have worked hard to push our rugby team back to the top and get them playing to the best of their capabilities,” he explained, adding that they started a new way of taking on the training and game planning in 2019 and that through winning this league they can see that their hard work has paid off.
