Young Ruimsig coach shares her fitness journey

Local athlete shares her passion and compassion for fitness with the community.

Although 22-year-old Danica Holder has always been athletically inclined by taking part in cross-fit, school sports, and even boxing classes, she recently decided to pursue her dream of becoming a fully-fledged Olympic weightlifter.

Danica grew up in a family that enjoys fitness, and although her four older siblings ended their sports careers in high school, she has maintained her passion and found a way to make it pay.

“I work for a wonderful, exclusively female fitness studio in Ruimsig where we do a mixture of boxing and cross-fit techniques to help clients build their fitness,” she explained, adding that it is also a great way of releasing tension after a long day.

Danica enjoys cross-fit training and explained that she probably got that passion from her mom, Roleen Ackermann who has participated in cross-fit competitions for as long as Danica can remember.

“My interest in coaching started when I was still in high school, because I was a hockey player I was permitted to use the school’s gym facilities without having to pay a monthly fee. There my friends started asking me about exercise plans and techniques and I helped them with their fitness, and now look at me coaching women as my day job for almost two years now,” she exclaimed.

Danica encourages anybody who might be interested in becoming fit to take that leap.

“Just make the effort to go out and find out what the world has to offer,” she added, mentioning that it is fine to go at your own pace and build up your strength.
