Family of 10-year-old soccer boy calling for help to get their boy to Spain

A hardworking father and caregiver mother dreaming of sending their young star on a rare journey.

Mason Brown is among 13 other U12 boys from Global Soccer Schools International Florida who has been selected to tour Spain in September.

The 10-year-old boy, who has reached an important milestone in his soccer journey, is the middle child of two brothers, Tyler and Ethan, and two sisters, Zoey and Mikayla. He started training at five years old, joining the Florida training centre in November 2020, and has always been fond of soccer.

Coming from a single-income home, his mother Justine left her job nine years ago to take care of his sister, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy.

“His dad is the only breadwinner in the home and financially, it hasn’t always been easy as Mikayla’s therapy and medical expenses are costly,” Justine explained.

She relayed how they always watched him and his brother playing in the yard and quickly realised his potential. The tour presents an opportunity for players to test themselves against players from European development structures and provides a perfect platform for players who have ambitions of playing in Europe.

Mason trains with boys 14-17 years old. He also trains and plays for Global Development FC. His mother says that his confidence has improved as he joined his school team this year. She added that it was a journey filled with tears for Mason and the family.

“And because things haven’t always been easy for Mason and his family, he works even harder so that one day he may improve his circumstances,” she said.

Mason is currently in the most advanced technical training program in this country.

“He has come a long way and for us to make his dream come true, we are appealing to anyone who can make a donation or even sponsor Mason’s trip to Spain. It would mean a lot to him,” she pleaded.

The family has started a Backabuddy campaign and donations or support can be arrange directly with Justine on 081 542 8104.
