Weekly Roodepoort parkrun in Florida

The Roodepoort parkrun took place again on Saturday and had runner, Dalveen Davies, run her 250th parkrun at the event.

The Roodepoort parkrun takes place every Saturday at the Len Rutter Park in Florida Park and Saturday, March 4, was no different.

There are no entrance fees and the main objective of the 5km run is to keep fit. Fitness is however not all people get out of the parkrun, they also get to meet new friends.

The run is held by volunteers and starts at 08:00. People of all ages take part and some even bring their dogs to run with them, as long as it is on a leash. Others bring their families or even a designated partner to do parkruns with.

David Lynch, a regular at the parkrun said, “I enjoy doing parkrun almost every week. it helps me to keep fit and meet other athletes. Getting out early in the morning to do a parkrun is revitalising. it’s good for socialising with other members of our community.”

Ashley Mandich, who completed her 153rd parkrun, said, “I love the social gatherings and I find it makes me stronger.”

Another runner, Dalveen Davies, ran her 250th parkrun at the March 4 event, and she said, “I feel like a champion! Looking forward to the next 250 runs!”
