Cradle Cracker aims to give back!

"We raised just over R5 000 for Saving the Survivors."

The Cradle Cracker, a four-race series that takes place in the Cradle of Humankind, took place at the Bothongo Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve on Sunday, February 12.

Cecile Masuret, Dorota Ladosz and Graham Hutchins.

The Cradle Cracker is a non-affiliated race that starts and finishes at the reserve and with five distance options, has something to test all road fitness levels.

The Cradle Cracker is unique in a few ways.

“The event was the first event in the Gauteng Province to be a ‘Litter Free Race’ meaning that there are no water sachets or cups available at the water points and we encourage runners to bring their own hydration packs, water bladders, or containers. We are also focusing on a charity for the series,” explained Sean Sandiford.

Dorota Ladosz, Selda Herbst Barkhuizen and Paulette Josiah.

“We believe in giving back and 2023 is a great time to do it. On the one hand, medals represent a runner’s achievement but on the other hand, we have a chance to support a great cause that is in real need. So we are giving runners a choice. They can either donate the medal portion of their entry fee to charity or request to receive a medal at the finish line, or both,” Sean added that Saving the Survivors is their charity of choice for the Cradle Cracker Series.

Runners collected a puzzle medal piece that creates a larger puzzle medal that they can put on their fridge. There were also some cool giveaways, free coffee, and Flying Fish Seltzers.

“We raised just over R5 000 for Saving the Survivors,” concluded Sean.
