Leratong outplay SWGC Masters in a 6-goal thriller

The second half did not disappoint at the two sides looked sharper and initiated more attacks through the middle of the park.

On n Friday, January 27 South West Gauteng College (SWGC) Masters soccer team took a trip to Azaadville to face Leratong Hospital in a preseason friendly that saw the visitors suffer their first loss of what promises to be an exciting season.

The two sides approached the first encounter with caution and avoided being caught off-guard by their troublesome attackers who are always lethal in front of goal.

Leratong Hospital struck first through a defensive error from the visitors back four that resulted in the first goal of the match.

SWGC Masters were not discouraged and kept searching for an equaliser but their efforts were derailed when Leratong Hospital doubled their lead through a well worked goal that saw their striker outrun the centre backs and slot home calmly.

After some neat touches from the midfielders and quick movement from the strikers, SWGC Masters scored their first goal through Katlego Leshike who latched on to a defence splitting pass and rattled the oppositions net with a well struck finish.

The first half ended with both sides having a lot of work to do in order to secure maximum points.

The second half did not disappoint as the two sides looked sharper and initiated more attacks through the middle of the park.

Fans were entertained by the pace and skilful abilities of the wide players from both teams which resulted in the second having more goals and fouls.

The match ended with a 4-2 win in favour of Leratong Hospital who showed more hunger and determination towards the dying minutes of the second half.

SWGC Masters will take a lot of lessons from the match and soldier on as they plan to play more friendly matches before the new season of the SAPS West Rand Soccer League commences.
