Lions amateur team too good for the Pumas

Under the leadership of EcoRubber Roodepoort Rugby Club’s Neil Kalify, the Lions Amateur side claimed a victory of 46–21 over the Pumas.

Saturday, August 20 saw the Golden Lions Rugby Union amateur team go head to head with the Pumas Rugby Institute in Barberton.

Under the leadership of EcoRubber Roodepoort Rugby Club’s Neil Kalify, the Lions Amateur side claimed a victory of 46–21 over the Pumas in a game of two halves that saw the visitors finish as the stronger team on the day.

The first half was balanced with the two teams not showing any signs of fear or doubt in their abilities, resulting in a very close half time score of 24–21 to the visitors.

The Lions scored 22 unanswered points in the second half to add to their tally with Cameron Lentoor, Jacques van Wyngaardt, Itu Mpete, Andrew Volschenk, Brad van Niekerk and Dylan Mostert crossing the line for the Lions.

Raiders Rugby Club’s John Khubeka got his back line moving and initiated a lot of attacks while converting four kicks as well as succeeding with two penalties.

Captain from EcoRubber Roodepoort Rugby Club, Ruan du Toit led the team with determination and proved to be a great leader, communicator, key decision-maker as well as an important link between the team and the coaches.
