Roodies hosts Comrades Marathon send-off braai for their athletes

Club President Jan Kemp cautioned athletes to run their own races and endeavour to achieve their own targets instead of competing with other athletes.

Roodepoort Athletics Club hosted a Comrades Marathon Send-Off Braai last Saturday, August 20 at the Ampie Barnard Tennis Courts for athletes of the club who were to participate in the Ultimate Human Race on Sunday, August 28.

Families brought one side dish while non-club members ordered their braai packs from the venue – 2022 club members qualified for a free braai pack.

Roodies also celebrated the hard work of their Comrades runners and wished them good luck as they geared up for the big challenge ahead.

On Wednesday evening, August 24 Roodies gathered again at the same venue and enjoyed a pasta evening.

Road Captain Conrad de Buys and veteran runners Jan Kemp who is also the Club President, as well as Dale Rynhoud who has done 30 Comrades gave expert advice to all athletes who attended on how they could conquer the daunting ultra-marathon.

Kemp cautioned athletes to run their own races and endeavour to achieve their own targets instead of competing with other athletes.

De Buys told the Record that the braai and pasta evenings were held to encourage and show support to Roodies’ Comrades Marathon runners.

All athletes were given goodie bags as a token of appreciation from the club and to wish them all the best.
