Join Panorama Running Club for the return of the annual Clearwater Mall 10km and 5km fun run

Both races with be a tour of the scenic and undulating streets of Strubens Valley and Little Falls

Clearwater Mall and Panorama Running Club are urging runners to get their registrations in for the 2022 Clearwater Mall 10km and 5km fun run.

On August 13, the premier shopping destination and long-serving athletics organisation will be holding their annual race, with prize money and King of the Mountain titles up for grabs. The route will be a tour of Strubens Valley and Little Falls, entering and exiting through Fredenharry Road, weaving through the scenic streets and not-to-be underestimated hills between the extremities of the two suburbs.

Registration is open for the two races, which begin at 07:00 and 07:15, with the shorter of the distances starting fractionally later. Serious runners may prefer the more challenging 10km but families are encouraged to enjoy the more gentle 5km fun run together. Pre-race registration fees are R120 for the 10km and R70 for the 5km, with an extra R10 applicable for race-day registrations. Road running requires a licence and temporary ones are available for R30 per distance from 05:30 on race day.

Those wanting something special to aim for can chase the course record. The current men’s record of 30 minutes and 49 seconds belongs to Mbongeni Ngxzaozo, and Rene Kalmer’s 36 minutes and 27 seconds is the best women’s time. To do so, 10km runners will need to be a minimum of 15 years old while the 5km comes with a nine-year age requirement. For the slower movers, race cut-off time is 09:00

Cash prizes will be given to the 10km winners – R1 500 for the first male and female finishers; R1 000 for a record-breaker; and an extra R300 for the King and Queen of the Mountain titles. Amounts will also be given to the top finishers in each age category.
