Local judoka continue to impress in continental events

Reece-Hunter Erasmus and Moagi Molefe recently competed with distinction at the National Kata Trials and were selected by Judo South Africa (JSA) to represent the country at the Senior African Kata Championships in Oran, Algeria on May 25.

The duo participated in Nage No Kata (throwing kata) and Kime No Kata (self-defence kata). They finished in third place and both won bronze medals.

Moagi and Ferdinand van den Heever have been selected to participate in the upcoming African Cadet and Junior Championships to be held in Kenya during July.

According to KJK Judo Club head coach, Sensei Katja Bruwer many of their club members will also be attending the SA National Judo Championships in Gqeberha on June 25 and 26.

“A big thank you to Dr Neels van Schalkwyk who assisted Moagi and Reece-Hunter with their preparation, as well as Judo South Africa for selecting our youngsters and giving them the opportunity to attend.

“It is not motivation that gets you your results, but rather great discipline.

“Judoka wishing to see results need to train on the days they feel like training and on the days they don’t feel like training.

“Thank you to all the parents for all of their support,” said Sensei Katja.
