ProTouch riders part of gold-winning SA team
Team South Africa were second to none as they bagged three gold and one bronze medal in the four separate events on the day.
South Africa’s elite men’s team time trial (TTT) quartet of Ryan Gibbons (UAE Team Emirates), and ProTouch Cycling’s Kent Main, Gustav Basson and Jason Oosthuizen emerged victorious on day one of the 2021 African Continental Road Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
They won gold and posted the fastest overall time to add to South Africa’s medal collection on day one.
Earlier on day one the SA junior and elite women teams both won gold in their respective TTTs on the 14km circuit around Sheikh Zayed City, which the elite men completed three times in total.
The win was South Africa’s second victory in the men’s elite team time trial at the African championships, 12 years after their previous gold medal.

Earlier in February ProTouch Cycling based in Honeydew made the announcement that three of their riders, Kent, Jason and Gustav, have been selected to represent the South African National Team at the 15th CAC African Road Championships in Egypt. Spearheaded by Ryan, they would take part in both the road and team time-trial.
