Teqball attracts the country’s leading freestyle footballers
The official roadshow of Teqball South Africa was held at the Decathlon Store in Centurion where athletes came and showed off their skills with other teqers.
The 5-a-side soccer courts behind the Hillfox Value Centre basement came to life on Saturday, 31 October with a new kind of football-based sport called Teqball.
Teqball is played on a specially curved table called the Teq table, which is attracting a new generation of athletes and amateur enthusiasts (teqers), whose ambition is to develop their technical skills, concentration and stamina.

Ozwin Edwards who organised the event at Hillfox is a member of the first SA Teqball team, but took it upon himself to host the first tournament so that the public could see the sport and start playing.
Teqball was invented in Hungary six years ago, and is now gaining worldwide popularity as more people are getting to know the sport.
“The sport is played on a curved table using a football, which has to be kept off the ground after one bounce on the table. The match consists of three sets with services changes of four point, and sets running up to 20 points,” said Ozwin.
The sport that recently arrived in the country has already been a hit with some of the country’s leading freestyle footballers.
According to Ozwin, the plan is for the rainbow nation to send a team to the world championships and hopefully the Olympics in the future.
