Lions Wilro Park Gravel Grinder postponed to 2021

Initially named the Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge, organisers sought to rethink the popular cycling event into a more logistically streamlined affair.

No matter the size or prestige attached to an event, few have been immune to the coronavirus pandemic and the resultant after-effects. The Wilro Lions Gravel Grinder was initially scheduled for April 2020 but organisers will hope to bring this unique cycle challenge to riders in April 2021.

Initially named the Wilro Lions Cycle Challenge, organisers sought to rethink the popular cycling event into a more logistically streamlined affair. Tarlton International Raceway was set to be the stage for the new Wilro Lions Gravel Grinder where cyclists could test their endurance on the asphalt usually home to supercharged, nitrous-fuelled drag racers.

“Due to various restrictions and regulations around Covid-19, the organisers of the Wilro Lions Gravel Grinder have decided to postpone the event to April 2021. The date will be advised once confirmation of the availability of Tarlton International Raceway is obtained and Cycling South Africa has approved the date,” stated race organisers.

2020 has wreaked havoc on the sporting calendar and thoughts are already on 2021 for a mental and physical reprieve.
