Poorte captain joins forces with former Springbok for a good cause

In one of his Facebook posts, Selom mentions former Springbok rugby player, Aphiwe Dyantyi, and Benedict Chanakira who is the technical analyst at Tafel Lager Griquas, as among the people who are on board with this good initiative of helping the needy.

RotoTank Roodepoort Rugby Club captain, Selom Gavor and a couple of friends have embarked on a worthy cause of lending a helping hand to the public during these difficult times.

The Poorte captain is no stranger to community-based initiatives as he has also been part of the amazing work being done by the Pick n Pay School Club, in collaboration with Pick n Pay and MasterCard. They visited Bordeaux Primary School recently to award five hero learners.

According to Selom, members of the public who are not working, and those who unfortunately have run out of food or know someone who is in need, should not be afraid or embarrassed to send him a private message as he will be more than happy to share whatever food he has.

“I was taught growing up that where one person eats, two can eat too. We have to be more grateful and less selfish,” said Selom.

In one of his Facebook posts, Selom mentions former Springbok rugby player, Aphiwe Dyantyi, and Benedict Chanakira who is the technical analyst at Tafel Lager Griquas, as among the people who are on board with this good initiative of helping the needy.

“It’s really down to being examples and helping those we can with what we have. It’s got nothing to do with their religion, or race, or anything. It’s about all of us being stronger together, and to actually live the phrase,” said Benedict.

“Every contribution counts, small or big. Growing up in a big family you learn that sharing of any kind is empowering,” said Aphiwe.

The trio saw some social media posts about people who need some help with food, and decided immediately to join the cause and make a difference during this difficult time.

“We are trying to help the needy with a little bit where we can. We don’t have much, but we will try and assist. If we can’t, then we will get people who can to come on board,” said Selom, adding that he has reached out to someone he knows from Woolworths to try and get them to assist.
