Ruimsig parkrun put on hold until further notice

According to the organisers of the parkrun, all events will be put on hold until at least the end of March.

Ruimsig parkrun announced on their Facebook page that all parkrun events in South Africa, Namibia, and Eswatini have been suspended with immediate effect due to the ongoing Covid-19 (Coronavirus) situation.

According to the organisers of the parkrun, all events will be put on hold. “At this stage we have postponed events up to the end of March; please follow our communications channels for ongoing updates.

“Parkrun’s global position is published and will be updated, and we are following government advice and public health guidelines,” said Global Head of Communications, Russ Jefferys.

At the last parkrun held on 7 March, 532 people ran, jogged and walked the course, 92 of whom were first-timers and 54 recorded new personal bests. Representatives of 17 different clubs took part.

Ruimsig parkrun started on 15 September 2018 and since then 10 647 participants have completed 44 546 parkruns, covering a total distance of 222 730km, including 9 513 new personal bests, with a total of 548 individuals volunteering 1 533 times.
