West Rand gymnasts selected for 2020 African Championships

The gymnasts will be putting in 24 hours per week training on average to prepare for this international event.

Visions Gymnastics based in Strubens Valley are proud of their four gymnasts and two coaches who have been selected to participate in the 2020 African Championships.

The gymnasts are hard at work preparing for the prestigious tournament that will be held from 2 April to 5 April at the Matsport Centre in Tshwane.

Visions Gymnastics is the only club in South Africa that has men and women in their team.

The 2020 African Championships is an Olympics qualifying event, and team South Africa is putting in everything to eventually walk away with the junior and senior Women’s and Men’s Team and individual titles at the championships.

Adele Heine from Vision Gymnastics said, “Congratulations to our gymnasts and coaches for being selected to participate in the tournament. I know they will do all of us proud.”

Ruan Lange, 18, and Mohammad Khaalid Mia, 21, were selected for the men’s senior team as all-around competitors, and Kevin Basson as the senior men’s coach.

Daniel McLean, 14, was selected as all-around gymnast for the men’s junior team.

Karma Visagie, 12, was selected as an all-around competitor in the women’s junior team. Adele Heine was named the junior team coach and Derick Scholtz as a personal coach.

“The gymnasts will be putting in 24 hours per week training on average to prepare for this international event,” concluded Adele.
