Ultimate Nathan kicking it to the top

"I hope to one day leave behind a legacy, and give kids in SA hope"

Nathan Govender aka Ultimate Nathan started his wrestling career in 2014, and today he holds the title of Best Wrestler in South Africa.

From the age of three, Nathan was more intrigued by the actions of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestler Jeff Hardy jumping off ladders in ladders and chairs fights, than watching the all-time favourite purple dinosaur, Barney. Since then, the young Nathan dreamt of one day becoming a wrestler himself. “It stuck with me since; it has always been my childhood dream,” he said.

As a wrestler, Ultimate Nathan has reached some of the highest highs. In 2016 he made a big splash and was named Rookie of the Year. At the beginning of last year, the Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) spotted his unique talents and signed him to the HWA family. He has worked hard to make his mark in the ring ever since, and build himself up to win the titles for Undisputed Tag Team Champion, Inter-provincial Champion and HWA South African Champion. “As the best, we don’t settle for anything less. Winning is normal when you work hard towards it,” he stated.

For him wrestling is not only about the unique techniques the wrestlers use, but also seeing the emotion that every character evokes in the ring. Ultimate Nathan quickly became one of the fans’ favourite wrestlers after he had to endure the fans’ pitchforks. Fans got to know the famous character in the ring to be arrogant and definitely the wild one. He is a heat magnet and the fans love to hate him. “Fans would jump into the ring ready to take my head off, but funny enough this year fans fell in love with his character and treated him like a superhero,” he mentioned.

He is known to be entertaining as he will work hard to pull out all the stops, and that makes him one of the most exciting wrestling talents and characters to watch. “He is a big talker, but he can definitely back it all up,” he added. While working hard he hopes to win the title of World Champion one day, and to defeat HWA’s very own Steve Eden. “The fact that people think it’s impossible makes me even more eager to prove them wrong. I still want to beat Steve Eden and prove that I am the best wrestler in SA. I also dream of going into a match with Adam Cole, Kenny Omega, John Cena, CM Punk, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles and Riccochet,” he elaborated.

This ultimate wrestler not only inspires young wrestlers in the ring, but give of his time to do motivational speaking, hoping to encourage the youth. “I hope to one day leave behind a legacy, and give kids in SA hope. Like Trevor Noah, Nasty C and many other entertainers, it is possible to do what you dream of doing,” he explained.

This year he is making fresh headlines with his talent, hard work, attention to detail, consistency and passion, and fans will definitely be seeing him in the spotlight. “Fans will see a more polished Ultimate Nathan. 2020 is Ultimate Nathan on his biggest rise ever. They will see a new move or two, and originality,” he said and then concluded with his famous saying, “I am the undisputed saviour of SA wrestling”.
