He will take on the position as president for the next five years, and will retire at the age of 94.

The 89-year-old ultimate 8th Dan Sensei, Johan Roets attended another South Africa Japan Karate Association (JKA) Standardisation Seminar at the Wanderers Sport Club on 1 February.

Every two years, black belt karatekas from South Africa are invited to the seminar where they attend the technique renewal course presented by the senseis from the JKA head office in Tokyo. The seminar, known to be the biggest event of black belts, will be held again in 2022.
