ProTouch Cycling placed 5th in GC

The peloton proved to be very aggressive and Jaydé Julius had to fight really hard to be part of the longest breakaway of the day.

Sunday, 26 January saw ProTouch take on the last stage of the Tour in Gabon, which offered a 128km programme. The first 70km was quite flat before a hilly circuit.

During the first hour of the race, Rohan du Plooy, Gustav Basson and Calvin Beneke were in every breakaway. Unfortunately Calvin had to let the peloton go after suffering some mechanical issues.

The peloton proved to be very aggressive and Jaydé Julius had to fight really hard to be part of the longest breakaway of the day.

The three-rider breakaway, including Jaydé, had a maximum gap of two minutes but were caught with 18km to go.

The last three laps were lightning fast with a lot of moves. At 10km to go, a group of six riders including HB Kruger created a gap of 30 seconds on the rest of the peloton.

Caught at 2km to go, a sprint with the small peloton decided the winner of the day and overall General Classification.

ProTouch finished with two riders in the top 10, with Jaydé finishing in fifth position and Gustav in ninth.

The ProTouch riders showed some great team work and finished in third position in the Team Classification on the day.

The team had two riders in the top 20 with HB finishing in 13th, Jaydé in 15th and the team in fifth place in the General Classification.
