Delfos Cricket Club earns ‘blue flag’ status

The blue flag programme gives recognition to clubs who are achieving CSA’s aims and objectives in terms of the presidential plan.

Delfos Cricket Club from Roodepoort is among the 20 clubs around the country who were named and given ‘blue flag’ status by Cricket South Africa (CSA) this month.

Delfos Cricket Club, Kagiso Cricket Club, Randburg Cricket Club, Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club, University of Johannesburg Cricket Club and Old Edwardians Cricket Club are the Central Gauteng Lions representatives among the 20 clubs.

CSA’s acting manager of cricket pathways, Edward Khoza, said, “The aim of the blue-flag programme is to assess how all our clubs are performing in terms of a measurement tool called the clubs quality index.”

Delfos Cricket Club fits the required criteria for this status which include administrative capabilities, adequate facilities, a minimum number of teams and suitably qualified coaches.

The blue flag programme gives recognition to clubs that are achieving CSA’s aims and objectives in terms of the presidential plan.

The qualifying clubs will be able to wear the prestige CSA blue flag logo on the sleeve of their shirts and will be awarded a CSA plaque of recognition.

Delfos Cricket Club secretary and executive member, Faizel Sallie said, “The club is honoured to be given such recognition. The hard work and dedication of the members, players, parents and supporters of the club have been recognised by the award of a truly humbling accolade”.
