Boxing club in Zandspruit goes from strength to strength
Although Maseko lost her fight, she was appreciated for her effort, commitment and her never-say-die attitude.
UJAB Boxing Club from the Zandspruit informal settlement had two of its boxers participate at the open air Protearif Boxing Club on Saturday 26 October 2019 in Krugersdorp West.
The venue for the boxing tournament was the Harlequins Rugby Club, where boxers from different clubs showcased their talent and hard work.
13-year-old Maseko Mahlatsi from UJAB Boxing Club was awarded a trophy for the best fight of the tournament in the women’s section.
Although Maseko lost her fight, she was appreciated for her effort, commitment and her never-say-die attitude.
Another boxer from Zandspruit, Nkosinathi Matshaine (also 13 years old) lost his fight too, but was praised for his determination and fighting spirit that made his opponent dig deep for the title.
“UJAB Boxing Club is the only boxing club in Zandspruit and being the rookies in tournaments like these, they have shown a great ability to learn and improve,” said club official, Michael Mapfunde.
The Club was founded in October 2016 with the aim of using boxing, martial arts and education to release the potential within the youth of Zandspruit.
