Golden Drifters confident to bounce back

The injury of key players attributed to two losses in their opening games.

Golden Drifters Football Club president, Proud Shoko is optimistic that his club will find its form and return to winning ways, considering that it is still early in the season.

Playing in the SAB regional league, the Zandspruit outfit kicked off the league with ruled-out players who suffered injuries during their short Nedbank Cup stint last month. Injuries to key players attributed to two losses in their opening games. In their last game they lost 2–1 to a very strong Maesto FC from Carletonville.

However, Shoko is still pleased with his players’ performance during the game.

“Coming out of the Nedbank Cup, about nine of our players were not available because of injuries, which was bad,” he said. Among the injured players was none other than Keitumetsi Baloyi, who is currently recovering off the pitch.

Shoko sees his club achieving a top-three position this season. “I believe that is within our reach. The fact that we have younger players in the team is good for sustainability, because in the next season we don’t want to sign new players; we will have to continue with the players we have,” he explained.

Despite the loss, Shoko said his boys remain very confidant and it shows at camp and training. “We are now just looking for a win, and we are very confident that we will find one and many others,” he said.

In the next window period next year, Shoko said he might add new players, depending on their position in the league, to feed their quest to finish at the top.
