Rugby fever at Westgate Mall

Westgate and Huawei South Africa invite fans to watch the rugby.

Rugby fever hit Westgate Super Regional Shopping Centre on 21 September, when it, in conjunction with Huawei South Africa, launched its Rugby Fanzone for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

For the duration of the tournament, matches will be televised on the big screen in the food court at Entrance 4.

MC on the day was Impact Radio’s Zinhle Xulu who whetted the appetites of the already eager crowd with her trademark enthusiasm. Before the rugby kicked off the waiting fans were treated to a special vocal performance by local celebrity Tracey-Lee Oliver. Tracey-Lee delivered a sassy rendition of Brenda Fassie’s classic South African track Weekend Special. The only thing that could top her performance was the rugby. The excited crowd belted out the national anthems of both New Zealand and South Africa with passion and patriotism.

A VIP section, which was set up by Joel Block and Josh Isaacson of Huawei South Africa, catered for invited VIPs, comprising Westgate Mall management as well as their clients. This VIP section will be open on selected days, and in particular the days the Springboks are in action.

Another special facet of the Fanzone will be the attendance of local children’s homes. Present on Saturday were the children of Lebogang Day Care Princess Crossing. Another local children’s home is scheduled to attend this Saturday when South Africa play Namibia.

Marketing Manager of Westgate Super Regional Shopping Centre, Gail Mashiane, was happy with the success of the day. Gail elaborated, saying “Westgate is a family mall and we are happy to be working with the community to provide an opportunity for all to enjoy the rugby”. She also thanked Huawei South Africa for their involvement in the initiative. Entrance 4 of Westgate mall will be a hub of activity for anyone looking to enjoy some rugby action in the coming weeks.
