Pigeons fly high in World Cup

Riaan Kruger's pigeons made it through the Birmingham Roller World Cup

Riaan Kruger, a West Rand-based pigeon fancier from the West Rand Roller Union, did his club proud at the recent Birmingham Roller World Cup.

Riaan, and other fanciers from all over the world, chose their best pigeons to participate in this event. A judge travelled from one country to the next throughout the past three months to seek out the best of the best.

The pigeons were judged in groups of 20 (known as a kit), and were judged for the quality and depth of their roll (a tumble action done by the pigeons in the air).

Riaan’s patience, talent, skill and knowledge in training his Birmingham Roller Pigeons certainly showed, and his kit was awarded with a sensational second place.
