Chiefs complete the double on the Poorte

The two sides were locked at 22-all at the halftime break, with both teams looking determined to score maximum points and the visitors having a score to settle.

RotoTank Roodepoort Rugby Club visited the Wanderers Rugby Club on Friday, 19 July, to play the first Pirates Grand Challenge Top 6 fixture at Kent Park.

The last encounter between the two sides resulted in Wanderers claiming a memorable victory in front of Poorte’s home crowd at Ruimsig Stadium.

Poorte quickly registered the first points of this match and went up by 10–0 early in the first half, but the home side quickly responded with some impressive running and clawed their way back into the game.

Chiefs found their rhythm and went into the lead 12–10, using the home advantage very well as the dying sun vanished in the evening sky.

The two sides were locked at 22-all at the halftime break, with both looking determined to achieve maximum points and the visitors having a score to settle.

After halftime, Poorte displayed some of the good attacking rugby they are known for, but the home side had every answer to the questions asked by the Poorte attack.

The match was such a thriller to watch and the high pressure rugby that was displayed by the two sides resulted in the score line see-sawing after halftime with both sides scoring two tries.

The accurate kicking of Wanderers flyhalf caused a lot of damage to the Poorte campaign and Wanderers kept fighting and resisting, which saw them regrouping to steer the ship home.

The Chiefs narrowly beat a stubborn Roodepoort side 36–32 this time around, to complete the double for this season.
