Young South African hero takes trophies

This young girl came home victorious from the city that never sleeps (New York City).

Twelve-year-old Caylin Humphreys, a talented young dancer, recently represented South Africa in New York and did really well.

All thanks must go to Melanie Ashcroft and Talent Africa for the amazing opportunity given to Caylin to perform in front of a group of world-renowned scouts and judges from all over America.

Caylin won in the Acro dance section, and was a runner-up in Lyrical dancing in her section. She also won Commercial Print Model in her age category, and was the divisional winner for commercial print model.

She also got the opportunity to attend the workshops conducted by Alvin Alley as well as Broadway Dance Centre in New York. She was also privileged to do a dance class with AC Ciulla, an Emmy award-winning choreographer and dance teacher, as well as classes with the cast from the Broadway show Aladdin.

Caylin’s mother, Shantel Humphreys said,”I think every mama would be proud to have such a child in her life. She has worked really hard to get this far and I am glad that she has found her talents and is developing them. I also appreciate the support that we get from the community as well as nationwide”.

The Record has also learnt that Caylin wants to pursue her talents as a career as they are something that she enjoys and she sees her future in them.

Caylin said, “I want to study Bachelor of Arts (BA) Drama and would like to open my own school where I can teach other children who do not have a source of income or facilities to pursue their dance lessons but have the potential and will to dance”.
