Poorte set to tackle newly-promoted Bobbies this weekend

It will be a tough challenge for newly-promoted Bobbies.

Roodepoort Rugby Club’s next Pirates Grand Challenge match sees them take on the newly promoted Johannesburg Police Rugby Football Club (Bobbies)in Ruimsig on Saturday, 13 April.

Four of Poorte’s five teams will be heading into their Bobbies fixtures off the back of impressive displays against Randfontein Rugby Club on 6 April, which saw Poorte score a total of 244 points on the day. Poorte’s third team, the only side to lose against Randfontein, will undoubtedly be looking to rise again and pull off a win against a Bobbies side that pulled off a narrow victory against Alberton Rugby Club last week.

Bobbies will also be heading into the clash with four teams that won their opening fixture of the 2019 PGC, having locked horns with the other newly promoted club, Alberton. Bobbies didn’t have as easy a time as Poorte during their first fixtures, with the largest winning margin of 17 points coming for the U/19 side.

The U/21s were the only Bobbies side to lose, but the other four teams will be hoping to continue their positive start to the season. Standing in their way will of course be a Roodepoort outfit looking to strengthen its stance as the best open rugby club in the Golden Lions Rugby Union.

The U/21 teams will kick off at Allen Glen High School on 13 April at 1.15pm, while the third teams will be kicking off at the same time at Ruimsig Stadium. The U/19s will kick off at 2.45pm at Allen Glen, with the second teams kicking off at the same time at Ruimsig Stadium.

The first teams will lock horns at 4pm at Ruimsig Stadium, so be sure to come out in support of Poorte if you are a fan of club rugby.
