Football Without Borders receives huge helping hand

The partnership between the two spawned from a simple encounter two months ago.

Football Without Borders’ latest donation, kits from Admiral SA, looks set to contribute greatly to the organisation’s cause in Zandspruit.

The partnership between FWB and Admiral all started when FWB founder Michael Mapfunde paid LGB Sports Distributors a visit in December last year, hoping to buy some kits for his organisation. This is when he met Roger Livesey, the General Manager of Admiral South Africa who was impressed by the work that Michael had done thus far, and wanted help out as much as he can.

“Michael told us about the work that he and his organisation does, and I knew that we simply had to find a way to get involved and help out,” Roger said. It was through this encounter that the special partnership between the two was formed, paving the way for the donation of equipment and clothing which the organisation needs.

“We often find ourselves in need of netball and soccer kits for the children, as they don’t have any kits of their own,” said Michael, who also runs FWB programs in Kromdraai, Zimbabwe, and even Zambia. “We rely on donations a lot, as they often help keep our organisation alive and up-and-running.”

Roger and Admiral, who have previously worked with entities such as the Mark Fish Foundation, then set out to make sure that Michael and some of the children under FWB won’t be in need of kits. The company has donated not only more than 50 netball and soccer kits, but a number of soccer balls, kit bags, and various other sporting equipment as well.

The partnership between the two seems to be one which is set in stone thus far. “We foresee this being a long, strong partnership with Michael and FWB, one that we hope will assist them greatly,” Roger said.
