ProTouch continues impressive performances at Tropicale Amissa Bongo

Rohan du Plooy's impeccable form has continued in the tour event.

After a solid start in the first stage of their first UCI 2.1 Africa Tour event, ProTouch Cycling carried their positive performances into Stage 3, despite misfortune in Stage 2.

Stage 2 was generally positive for ProTouch, with a couple of riders bagging important points in the King of the Mountain and Sprint classifications. Sadly for ProTouch, though, towards the end of the stage, rider Reynard Butler tumbled off his bike, with his bike being dragged over the line by another rider. Luckily for Reynard, his helmet saved him from serious injury, but the tumble brought his Tropicale Amissa Bongo tour to an end.

Going into Stage 3, the team was hoping that Jaydé Julius would bag a few points in the King of the Mountain and Sprint classifications, in the hope that they would send him up the respective rankings. ProTouch managed to do just that, as Jaydé ended Stage 3 in third place in both the overall rankings of the Sprint and King of the Mountain Classifications. He lies 10 points behind the leader of the KOM Classification, and four behind the leader of the Sprint Classification.

When it comes to other individual performances, Rohan du Plooy has thus far managed to carry on his impeccable form on the bike, as he earned yet another Top 10 finish in the stage, finishing seventh. This strong performance sees Rohan standing in 10th place in the General Classification, and sixth in the overall Points Classification. The next-best ProTouch rider is Songezo Jim, who finished 42nd in Stage 3 and lies 37th in the General Classification.

The performances from ProTouch’s riders sees them lie in 10th place in the Team Classification. Stage 4 of the race kicked off this morning, with 122km to be covered and ProTouch once again hoping to aid Jaydé in his rise up the KOM and Sprint Classifications.
