Lindhaven parkrun launching soon

Runners can look forward to a picturesque, fast two lap course

Runners and walkers in the Lindhaven area can look forward to a brand-new parkrun venue that will be launching soon.

According to Kip Norman, who is the regional parkrun ambassador for the West Rand, this will be the third parkrun venue on the West Rand, meaning runners (and walkers) are now spoilt for choice.

“The venue is the pretty Poplar Park on Poplar Street in Lindhaven. It will be a very flat, two-lap course that will be run on grass around the Princess Dam, some paths and concrete paving, and will also be pram-friendly. There is a lot of shade on the route. One dog, on a short leash, will be allowed per parkrunner,” he said.

Kip added that they were hoping for a lot of community involvement to ensure a successful and sustainable event, and said, “We also depend on volunteers to make the parkrun happen. It will start every Saturday at 8am.

“The website and Facebook page will be up and running soon; in the meantime, those interested can register at www.parkrun.co.za to ensure they have a barcode for their first run/ walk. They can always change their home run to the Poplar Park event,” Kip said.

The inaugural event will be on 2 March at 8am and everyone is welcome. It does not matter if you are a fast runner or a slow walker.

For more information on this event, send a WhatsApp to councillor René Benjamin on 073 734 0061. Alternatively, send an email to Kip at kip.norman@parkrun.com.
