Panorama kick off 2019 in seventh heaven

The impressive result was Panorama's second victory in the Blue Stream of the SAB League Johannesburg.

Panorama Football Club managed to bag a critical second win of the season, this time defeating last-placed Navada Stars 7–1 on Saturday, 12 January.

The Undertakers were hoping to bounce back from a catastrophic 9–0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in their last game of 2018, with Navada Stars hoping to simply bag their first points of the season. On a beautiful day for a game of football, the teams played on one of Panorama’s secondary fields as the main field was undergoing maintenance.

Prior to their defeat to Chiefs, Panorama had bagged their first SAB League win, beating Meadowlands FC 4–3, a performance they were undoubtedly hoping to repeat against Navada Stars. They started off strong, and looked as though they could walk away with the game, managing to slot home two goals in the first 15 minutes. But then Navada seemed to hold their heads higher than Panorama despite being two goals down, and had a goal disallowed after the linesman ruled a Navada player offside.

They eventually got their goal however (only their fifth of the season), to bring the deficit back to one goal. With the score at 2–1 at halftime, Navada looked to be playing more positively than Panorama. But, a motivational half-time talk seemed to revive The Undertakers, as they came out all guns blazing in the second half. Early on in the half, they were unable to slot home their chances, but as the saying goes – try, try, and try again.

Try they did, as in the final third of the game Panorama ran riot and managed to bag five goals to hand Navada their 12th defeat of the season, which also means they remain the only team with a single point in the Blue Stream. The win handed Panorama three crucial points which saw them climb three spots to 12th on the log, pending the results from the other games over the weekend.

The Undertakers’ next challenge will be Phala Stars FC at home at Panorama Football Club on Saturday, 19 January.
