Dancers from the Designed to Dance studio participated in the recent Roodepoort Dance Festival, and did very well.
Louise-Rose Baard, teacher and owner of the studio, said that she was extremely proud of the dancers, and explained, “I was overseas for two years, and when I returned, I reopened the studio in January this year. Together with my partner, Rezelle Veldman, we managed to prepare our dancers for their exams in May, as well as present a number of group and solo items for the Roodepoort Dance Festival.”
She added that all the participating solos, duets, trios, quartets and group items fared very well, and the majority of the achievements were either first or second places.
“Two of our winning groups – ‘I see the Light’ and ‘I am Water’ – qualified to dance at the Prestige Performance, where all proceeds received went to support the Dancers love Dogs initiative,” she said.
The charity that benefited from this initiative was the Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw), which received a substantial amount of money and dog food.
Louise-Rose said, “We also had three of our solo dancers who won special awards in their respective categories. Lisa de Wet won the Tap Dance Off, Dilyn Abrahams won her age division for Modern and her sister, Darienne, was the runner-up in her age division, also for Modern.”
She concluded by congratulating all the parents, students and teachers on their hard work and dedication, which ensured their success at the festival.
