Boxer sets sights on Olympic glory

Phumi is in need of a sponsor

The 20-year-old Phumelele Cele, who is training at the Vikings Boxing Academy, has once again made his club and coach proud.

For the second year in a row Phumi has been chosen to compete in the Open Boxing League (OBL) as part of the Gauteng team.

His first bout will be during the weekend of 27–29 September in KwaZulu-Natal when the South African National Boxing Organisation (Sanabo) team trials will also be held. “These trials are held to select boxers for participation in the 2020 Olympic Games,” said Phillip du Randt, the Academy’s head coach.

Phillip added that he was extremely proud of his young boxer, and said, “Phumi has all our support and we know that he will once again do well in the OBL and also qualify for the Sanabo team preparing for the Olympics. He is super-dedicated to his sport and we are sure that he will bring home some gold medals.”

In order for Phumi to realise his dream of competing, not only in the OBL but also at the Olympic Games, he is in need of sponsors. “Anyone who is willing to help us with a sponsorship for Phumi, please contact me on 081 212 9143,” Phillip said.
