Panorama’s SAB League team continues preparations for league and Nedbank Cup

After only having played together for little over a month, the side has put together a strong run of form ahead of their first Nedbank Cup qualifier.

Panorama Football Club’s newly formed South African Breweries (SAB) League side continued their strong preparation for the league that lies ahead with another victory.

Officially known as the SAB Regional League, it is effectively the fourth tier of domestic football in South Africa, and is one of the country’s strongest springboards for aspiring soccer players.

The SAB League is divided into regions right across South Africa, and each team that takes part in the league must have a minimum of five U/21 players in its starting XI on match day. Several clubs that take part in the country’s top tier, the Premier Soccer League, use the SAB League as a means of developing their young players to prepare them for possible future first-team football.

But, for amateur clubs such as Panorama, the SAB League is a stepping stone in the quest to turn professional and reach the PSL in future. Little over a month-and-a-half ago Panorama’s SAB team was still in its early stages of being assembled, considering the licence to take part in the league was only purchased this year.

But, in the last month-and-a-half the team has got off to an incredible start, being unbeaten in five games. They have already faced off against fellow newcomers to the SAB League, Golden Drifters Football Academy, whom they defeated 4–2.

Panorama and Golden Drifters won’t find themselves locking horns in the league however, as Panorama will play in the Central Johannesburg stream, while Golden Drifters will take part in the West Rand stream of the league. In their stream, Panorama will find themselves facing off against SAB League veterans Randburg Football Club, whom they have already drawn with in a friendly game.

Their preparations continued on Saturday, 15 September with yet another friendly against JHB Pull Together Football Club. They defeated Pull Together 2–0, with a goal in either half of the game.

Despite having only played together for little over a month, the players already gel well and are able to make good, calculated passes to form impressive link-up play. They will be playing in their first competitive matches as a team this weekend when they take part in their first Nedbank Cup qualifier.
